Mike and I have been arguing for like, Fletcher's entire life, about a trail at a local metro park we walked two days before Cameron was born. We tried to find it again when I was overdue with Fletcher and wound up at the wrong place, and then it started pouring so we ran for the car, completely soaked and frustrated.
I insisted that day, and have since, that we were at the wrong trail, anyway--when we went four years ago, we parked in an open area off a main road, and came to the hill pretty quickly once we started walking. When we went a year and a half ago, things looked completely different. Yes, everything was green and summer-y, but it was also just a different entrance altogether, I was sure of it. We went into the woods and walked a ways and it just looked all wrong. Then the rain started, so we never got to see where that path would ultimately take us.
Mike insisted then, and does now, that we were on the right trail. He says there was a right-angle turn ahead that we never took, that would have led us to a hill. I called the park's office today, and it turns out we were both right--two summers ago, we were at the same trail from four years ago, but at a different entrance...which is why it looked totally wrong to me, but sounded right to him. (I think that really says something about our general observation skills...we both have our strengths and weaknesses! I remember in great detail how everything looks, while he remembers details like directions and trail names [arguably more important...]. For example, I remember that hike 4 years ago as including a hike up a large hill AND a walk along an icy river...he insists we walked two different trails that day. The map agrees with him. Oops.)
Regardless, we are headed there Saturday for a good hike. It will be cold, maybe even a little muddy or icy (rain in the forecast for Friday and Sunday). Perfect for a walk at 40+ weeks pregnant. ;) We'll see if all the activity gets things moving...I've been taking it easy this week, so I'll be nice and rested by the time we go. We hiked on Saturday, January 12th, 2008, and my water broke Sunday night, so we always sort of suspected that the hike had something to do with labor starting. Maybe it will prove to be true this time, too!
