I made him some little animals--I still need to make them a 'barn' of some sort, but I've got some time. These will help him learn his animal sounds, and we can work on colors, too.

Today I finally picked up some bottled water for the second craft. I had wanted to find the Aqua Pod brand ones, because they're round and don't have grooves in the sides, but I didn't see them at the few places I looked. I found some mini 8-oz bottles, and the labels peeled off easily without leaving too much residue behind, so they seemed good enough.
I filled six of them with different 'trinkets'...beads, pom-poms, ribbon, buttons, all kinds of things! I tried glitter with the first one and it was kind of a flop--it didn't mix and swirl all that well, but tended to cling to the cap and to the little foam stars. It also made it a little too busy--it just looked kind of sloppy and messy, so I rinsed it out and started fresh.

They look pretty neat in real life. It's hard to photograph them, since the fillings either sink or float at the top. They are fun to shake and turn, though, and I've added even more to them since taking these pictures--I found some ribbon and yarn in the right colors. Soon we'll glue the lids shut so we don't have any nasty spills (though, really, I didn't use the glitter or food coloring, so spills wouldn't be *too* bad).
I think Fletcher will like both gifts...he'll like taking the animals out of their box and putting them back in, and he'll like carrying the bottles around and shaking them (he really just likes carrying things around! and these are arguably safer than forks or heavy cooking pots). I have a couple of other ideas to get started on in the next week or two, and then he'll be as d.o.n.e. for Christmas as Cameron is.
